Friday 30 July 2010

Today I woke up at 4.30 to take a trip through the river from 5 till
7. Then I had breakfast and headed to the city to sort out my ticket
problems and change money.

In the river people bath, clean their teeth, burn their dead, or throw them just dead (if they are pregnant women, kids or cows, since they are already holy) and throw the sewage. Yes, it is not good water, in fact I have seen a dead cow floating.

This morning in the boat there were 4 Spaniards (two catalans and two
andalusians) and 1 American and I was so pleased to see Spanish
people, for a change.

The whole day has been gone in changing the ticket, the boat trip,
breakfast, lunch and going to the bank (in a rickshaw, where the
rickshaw driver claimed to have driven the Dalai Lama himself) but I
havent seen much of Varanasi, I hope it gets better in Agra.

Safe In Calcutta

Well well,

Thanks to my Internet Booking company I almost miss the flight in Heathrow to get to India. It seems they thought 1 hour and 45 minutes was more than enough to go from terminal 5 to terminal 4 via terminal 3. On the other hand when I arrived there was overbooking and they had to put me in Business class. It was very stressful until they told me I had a place, but I could relax in the bed-like seat watching The Oxford Murderers.

The rest of the trip was kind of smooth. When I got to the airport Pushan, the professor I will work with in Calcutta, was waiting for me outside to take me to the Institute (Assoc. for the Cultivation of Science of Calcutta). It was a bit confusing since he could not go inside to avoid that the toots start harassing people.

And tomorrow I depart to Varanassi in a 1st Class Train which cost me about 14 pounds (to do a trip as long as Edinburgh-London).

I will try to write more soon.

Trip to India

Everything is ready. We depart to India, where Sandokan used to commandeer ships. I hope to get Internet to publish some stuff here.
